Hello my friends and very welcome on my youtube channel. Today we will explore Vilnius old town , staring with Bohemic part called Uzupio Republic with it's famouse Tibet Sguare, where Dalai Lama loves to visit during his trips. Explore some cosy narrow streets with it's independent art galleries, street art, such as graffiti , quates and stickers here and there.. Actually city centre isself is full of treet art, you just need to keep your eyes opened to notice that.
Absolutely no trip to Vilnius would be complete without spending few hours in it's most unusial neighbourgood, Uzupis. Created by artists and bohemians on 1st April's , fools day, it became place for dreamers and where's the only requirenment is to enter with smile.
So don't forget to visit Paupio street, which is just 5 minutes walk and take a photo in front of Uzupio Republic Constitution , which been translated into the 23 languages with it's 3 main quates, "Dont fight, don't win and dont surrender".
Nearby you can find Bernardine cemetery, wich is ancient, with oldest graveyards in Vilnius .
Amongst many small art galleries, step into Keistoteka book shop with its famous Uzupio republic's cat, he is trully adorable.
After you get hungry, there are many small bars and traditional restaurants serving only fresh, seasonal food for a reasonable prices with it's authentic spirit and atmosphere. Some of them located in Pilies street, so you can enjoy fantastic view of old down if you prefer to sit outside. But for the trully fantastic sightseeing , Vilniaus university and St Paul's Church (the highest point) would be perfect decision. Also you could climb up 3 Crosses hill to see all old town from above, just its reaaly long climb up wooden stairs , but result is truly worth it (also great exercise after huge and fat lithuanian dinner ).
Those who seeking for the adrinaline rush, can consider Air Ballon flight all over the Town.
The biggest hightlight of the city, which you could leave for desert, is famous Dawn Gates (Ausros Vartai) , this is the only remaning gates from original cities defensive walls. As it was common those times , the image of St Marry was placed all over the gates to protect city.
Nowadays many piligrims and tourists all over the world are coming to pray or simply enyoy beautiful chappel and it's image , as is't believed to have a magical healing power.
So as you can see, Vilnius is green, beautiful and vibrant city, especially in summertime , perfect destination for a weekend break, with many street art festivals, historicals events, parks, lakes and forests , which are easily accessible unlike in a huge cosmopolitan cities with loads of traffic ,long distances rush and stress..
